Roots is building AI-powered sports training that gives every player access to coaching that used to cost thousands. We started with basketball. We're not stopping there.
Personal basketball training costs $50–$150 an hour — up to $15,000 a year. Most families can't afford that. So most players practice alone, with no feedback, no idea what they're doing wrong, and no way to get better faster.
We're building a suite of tools that work together — for players who want real feedback on their shot, not just a count of makes and misses.
Upload video of your shooting session. AI finds every shot automatically, grades your form, tells you what's working and what to fix — shot by shot.
Try ShotLab →Upload a shot and see your form side-by-side against pro players. Find out how your mechanics compare to some of the best shooters in the game, frame by frame.
Try ShotSync →No equipment, no gym appointment, no trainer required. Just your phone and a hoop.
Film your shot with your phone from any angle. Upload an existing clip or record live.
AI reads your body mechanics and grades your form across six checks — automatically, for every shot in the video.
Get specific feedback on what to fix. Track your grades over time and watch yourself get better.
Roots was built by a small team of engineers and athletes who grew up playing the game without access to real coaching. We know what it feels like to practice alone, not knowing what's broken. We built the product we wished existed. We're based in California, and we've been building together since college.
Your phone can now read body mechanics in real time. What used to require a $50,000 motion capture lab now works from an iPhone. At the same time, family spending on youth sports is at an all-time high — and the gap between what well-funded programs and everyone else can access keeps widening. The technology finally caught up with the problem.
